Chartered Psychologist | EMDR Consultant | BABCP-Accredited CBT Therapist & Supervisor
I’m a Chartered Psychologist, EMDR Consultant and BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and Supervisor, with almost two decades of experience across NHS, forensic, charitable, academic and independent settings.
My work has developed across clinical practice, supervision, teaching, training, consultation and clinical leadership. A consistent thread throughout has been an interest in how clinicians and teams work thoughtfully with complexity, particularly trauma, risk, relational dynamics and emotionally demanding clinical work.
I am the founder of Ferrito Training & Consultancy and co-founder of Mindspace Therapy Studio. Alongside clinical practice, a significant part of my current work involves individual and group supervision of clinicians across NHS and independent settings, with a strong focus on complexity, clinical decision-making, relational dynamics and the emotional demands of clinical work.
Clinical Leadership & Professional Experience
I have held Clinical Lead and Clinical Specialist roles within a psychological therapy charity, including responsibility for implementing and supporting a CBT pathway.
My NHS experience includes many years working with severe and complex presentations. My current work in a high-secure setting includes individual psychological therapy, group therapy, clinical supervision and reflective practice with occupational therapists.
Earlier in my career, I also worked as an Associate Lecturer and supported the training and supervision of CBT practitioners.
These different settings have shaped my interest in the relationship between the clinician, the clinical work and the wider systems in which care takes place.
Supervision, Consultation & Training
Clinical supervision is now a substantial part of my practice.
I provide individual and group supervision, including EMDR consultation and CBT supervision, supporting clinicians with formulation, clinical decision-making, risk, professional development, relational dynamics and the emotional impact of complex work.
Through Ferrito Training & Consultancy, I also provide clinical consultation, supervision and training for clinicians, teams and organisations, including collaborative psychological input where a service or project would benefit from an experienced clinical perspective.
Clinical Approach
My clinical background is integrative and trauma-informed.
My work draws primarily on CBT and EMDR, alongside attachment theory, relational thinking, parts-informed approaches, Mentalization-Based Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, psychodynamic thinking and third-wave approaches.
Rather than applying models in isolation, I place emphasis on careful formulation, clinical judgement and understanding the individual, relational and wider context in which difficulties occur.
Research & Academic Background
I hold a PhD in Psychology from the University of Portsmouth. My doctoral research explored growth and resilience following trauma, reflecting a longstanding interest in the psychological impact of adversity, loss and personal change.
I have published in international journals, contributed book chapters and presented at national and international conferences.
My research background also includes specialist experience in qualitative methods, particularly Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, Thematic Analysis and Narrative Analysis.
The C.A.R.E.S. Model™
I am the founder of the C.A.R.E.S. Model™: Connect, Attune, Resource, Establish Boundaries and Settle.
The model grew from my clinical and supervisory work and focuses on what helps clinicians remain resourced, relationally attuned and clinically clear when working with complexity.
C.A.R.E.S. now informs aspects of my supervision, training and consultation.
